Attachments Not Displayed in Attachments Panel for Large PDFs (>2 GB)

WebViewer Version: 11.3.0

Summary of Issue:
Attachments are not displayed in the Attachments panel when opening large PDF files (> 2 GB) in WebViewer.

Details:
For large PDF files (greater than 2 GB), the Attachments panel remains empty. However:

  • The same attachments are visible in the Comments panel

  • Attachments can still be downloaded successfully

This behavior does not occur with smaller PDF files, where attachments display correctly in the Attachments panel.

At this time, I am unable to determine the root cause, as the feature works as expected for smaller files.

Could you please help investigate this issue and advise on the cause or a recommended solution for handling attachments in large PDF files?

It seems you’re encountering an issue where attachments in large PDF files (over 2 GB) are not displayed in the Attachments panel in WebViewer, though they are visible in the Comments panel and can be downloaded. This could be related to how large files are handled differently in the viewer or due to limitations in processing very large PDFs.

Some things you can try:

  • Verify if the PDF files are properly linearized. Linearization can help manage large files more effectively by allowing incremental access.

  • Ensure that your server supports byte-range requests, as this is necessary for efficient streaming and handling of large documents.

  • Consider optimizing the PDF file size if possible, as this might help alleviate the issue with displaying attachments in the panel.

  • Check the WebViewer’s configuration to ensure it is set up to handle large files appropriately.

  • Experiment with different PDF optimization settings to see if they impact the visibility of attachments in large files.

Hello Zaid,

Thank you for Apryse Forums.

Can you test this on our Showcase? If the issue still occurs, can you provide the file so we can take a closer look? I’ve sent a link to your email so you can easily upload this large document.

Best Regards,

Darian

Hello Zaid,

I’ve tried opening this file and the attachments panel on the latest version, 11.9.1. The attachment downloads for me without any issues. Can you test this on our latest version?

Hi,

Unfortunately, we are unable to upgrade to the latest version of WebViewer due to a docker container issue, for which we have raised a support ticket ([#152631] webviewiew 2.4.1 is failing with azure containers : Apryse).

Can you please provide a solution which works with the version we are currently using i.e, 11.3.0 ?

Regards,

Zaid

Hello Zaid,

I’m unable to reproduce this issue in 11.3. I just realized the file you provided and the one in your image don’t appear to be the same. The one in your image has only 10000 pages. Is the issue reproducible with both of these files?

  1. Are there any console/network errors?
  2. Does this happen in any browser? Which one are you testing with?
