When you open a word file with a table of contents in the word editor, there is an error that the file cannot be opened normally. As an attachment below, I will send you one file with a table of contents and one file without a table of contents, so please check the symptoms.
Hello, I’m AiRon, an automated tech support bot While you wait for one of our customer support representatives, I can help you with your question.
It seems like you’re experiencing an issue with opening Word files that contain a table of contents using Apryse’s WebViewer. This problem might occur due to how the WebViewer interprets certain Word document features, such as the table of contents.
Some things you can try:
Ensure that you’re using the correct version of the WebViewer and that it supports the features in your Word document.
Check if there are any updates or patches for version 11.5.0 that address this specific issue.
Test the document in different browsers to rule out browser-specific issues.
Try simplifying the table of contents in the document to see if a less complex version works.
Consider converting the document to a different format before viewing it in WebViewer, such as PDF, if applicable.

After discussing this internally, we can confirm this is an issue from our side.
It looks like the issue is caused by an out-of-date Table of Contents (TOC) in the Word file. When we tested, clicking inside the TOC in Word and selecting “Update Table” (or “Update TOC”) refreshed it so the TOC was properly synced with the document contents. After updating, the file loaded normally in WebViewer.
For now, the simplest workaround is to update the TOC in Word before uploading the document. At the same time, our team will continue investigating why an outdated TOC prevents the document from rendering correctly, so we can provide a more permanent fix on our side.
When I updated the TOC in the file I provided and uploaded it to Demo’s Word Editor, the file does not load normally. How can I verify that it loads normally to the Editor after the TOC update?
Thank you for your reply and for providing a screen record, but I’m not able to open that file. Could you please upload the full screen-record to a hosting service and provide me with a link? (Google Drive, OneDrive, WeTransfer)
